The Art Behind it: Old Blood Noise Endeavors BL-44 Reverse

I am learning how saying yes to one thing can lead to something else even more exciting!

The Backstory:

In April of 2022 I hung my collection The Color of Music in the exhibition hall of the Peterborough Town Library, in Peterborough New Hampshire. This show, in collaboration with my musician husband Chad, was the first one that showed paintings of my sound-color synesthesia.

One evening during the summer my husband mentions, “Hey just in case you get an inquiry email, its not a scam.” and he proceeds to explain that he lobbed my information over to Old Blood Noise Endeavors because he saw an interview that mentioned the company works with independent artists.

August 2022: I find myself in a Zoom conversation.

With one of the owners- Seth from OBNE about the opportunity to be the artist for the BL-44 Reverse effects pedal.

The Commission:

Firstly, I had a blast collaborating with the creative geniuses at OBNE. Using the effects pedal, Seth created a musical example of what the BL-44 Reverse could do and sent that over to me for a listen. After agreeing on an unstretched canvas size of 30 inch by 40 inch and a deadline of 4-6 weeks I got to work unleashing my superpower, sound-color synesthesia and had a playful time getting my hands into the paint.

Early October 2022

The completed painting was on its way to OBNE headquarters. Their painting would be photographed and a portion of the painting would be selected for usage on the BL-44 Reverse pedal.

In the words of my 4 year old son, “This is so cool.”

In the video below I describe in more detail the custom collaboration process with OBNE. Enjoy!

Have an idea for a collaboration that would benefit from my sound-color synesthesia?
