Buying a painting: how to make sure it fits
Using 3 simple tools you have in your home, you can be 100% certain that painting your are gushing over will fit on your wall.
I need visuals to make numbers and measurements come to life. Having dyscalculia (a severe difficulty in making arithmetical calculations) plays a role in not being able to appropriately size object in space. If you are like me- you read the dimensions of a painting but honestly not able to connect that size to what it would look like on your wall. Here is my best tip to make sure any painting you adore will work in your space.
3 Tools you will -probably- have on hand:
Tape measure
Pencil
Blue painters tape or washi tape
*optional- Notebook or scrap piece of paper. You can also jot down the dimensions in your notes app on your phone.
Directions:
Select the wall you are thinking you will hang the painting.
Measure out the width and height dimensions given in the painting description using your tape measure. You can put a faint mark at each of the four corners.
Using your painters or washi tape gently apply tape to the wall where you marked. You will end up with a square or rectangle shape at the end. Don’t worry if its not level. Right now you are getting a visual of the size.
Step back and assess. Too small? Too large? Just right? Perhaps you need to try the size out on a different wall if it doesn’t fit quite right to the eye.
*I suggest leaving the tape up for a few days and live with it for a bit. This helps you solidify that the size is the one you want.
